Performance at Alabama Association of the Deaf Conference
Howdy, Fans!
I just got back from a performance gig at Alabama Association of the Deaf conference in Birmingham. While I was there, I was fortunate enough to be able to catch Claudia Gordon’s workshop regarding emergency and safety within Deaf Community when natural disasters hit our homes. It was inspiring to learn that she was the first black deaf woman who works as an Attorney Advisor for the Homeland Security. Awesome, eh? It is not everyday that we meet other deaf women of color who are pioneers in such careers like law. It goes to prove that any one of us can overcome our obstacles no matter how difficult they are.
OH! I also learned that Alabama Association of the Deaf is affiliated with Alabama Black Deaf Advocates. They have since worked together on several deaf and hard of hearing related issues within the state of Alabama. It is wonderful to see such partnership like that! and like Evon Black had said during her energetic workshop that Alabama is a “state of art” and I have to agree.
As for the performance, I could only manage to get one single snapshot out of it and of course, with my luck, its not the most flattering picture but what can a girl do?

Be well.
